Well...in "Coldheart CAnyon" things have gotten very interesting. First, I was right about the ghosts, although it isn't the house that's haunted, it's the whole canyon. In fact, the ghosts aren't allowed in the house. There is a room that is magical in the house, and that's why all the ghosts are there. They are forbidden to enter the house and consequently the magical room by the woman who lords over the whole canyon. She was a silent film star who, because of the effect of the room, hasn't aged. She is still beautiful and all men desire her. She uses her sexuality to manipulate peaople and keep them under her thumb. The protagonist, however, has escaped her grasp with the help of the anti-hero female protagonist (she's the president of his fan club and kind of chunky and plain looking). Now the silent film star is going to leave the mansion and try to bring the protagonist back under her power. I'm guessing that when she leaves the canyon she will start to age...scary stuff.
Hmm, this sounds like it would make a good film noir. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI agree, this book sounds as if it would make an excellent movie.
ReplyDeleteBut what makes the room so magical? Did a gypsy curse the room or something?
If the novel is adapted as is-it would get an NC17 or even an X rating...it's pretty raw. The room is covered with tiles taken from a monestary in Romania (Transylvania) that seem to come alive when you enter the room. The scenes, the people, the world depicted in the tiles come to life. It is called "The Devil's Hunt." There are very beautiful as well as very grotesque things depicted, and one who enters the room becomes a part of the world of "The Devel's Hunt." It is as addictive as any drug. The ghosts haunting the the canyon are drawn there by the hope that they will one day be able to re-enter the room. FREAKY...

ReplyDeleteWhat do you think happened before that made the ghost haunt the canyon?
ReplyDeleteSo if the goast are not alloud in the house then is the house even haunted. This sounds like a very interesting story. I wonder how long the canyon has been haunted like this.
ReplyDeleteAre you scared of the ghosts? hahah
ReplyDeleteIs there a series to the book or is this the only one? and *Caynon hahaahah
Over-the-top, lurid, long...and absolutely UNFORGETTABLE!
ReplyDeleteClive Barker is a writer who never takes the subtle way out. It's a cliche that sometimes the scariest things are those things which are only hinted it or suggested (shower scene in PSYCHO is often trotted out as an example).
