I'm reading this scary novel by Clive Barker. Actually, I'm about 100 pages in and nothing much has happened so far. The protagonist, whose name is the same as a boyhood friend of mine, Todd Pickett, had plastic surgery that went horribly wrong. His agant is trying to keep him away from the public because he's a big movie star and the surgery has messed up his face. They think that he'll heal, but they hide him away in this old mansion up in the Hollywood Hills. My guess...the place is going to be haunted. I've read two or three other novels by Barker, and his novels are usually pretty scary.

It sounds like a good book. What books by him would you recommend?

All of Clive's books are supernatural, weird, kind of scary things. The guy had a face lift and a chemical peal to make him look younger-you know how movie stars are. He has a brother, but they don't get along and his brother leaves as soon as he comes out of surgery. He also has a driver/security guard at the beginning who takes care of him, but he dies pretty early on.

ReplyDeleteHe got the surgery because he's an aging movie star and he's trying to recapture his lost youth. There are other prettier actors coming along to take his place and he can't stand it. He is getting better, but he's still all swollen and kind of scarred. He's a movie star and noone recognizes him because his face is so distorted.

ReplyDeleteDoes the lovely movie star age when she leaves the mansion to pursue the protagonist? Is he able to escape her powers and how? Do the ghosts come to his rescue in retaliation for being cast out of the mansion by the movie star?
She did not age...she found Todd, the protagonist, and together they walked out into the Pacific Ocean. Now, not knowing if they are dead or alive, others have come to Coldheart Canyon, and the ghost are threatening them. I don't know what has happened to Todd Pickett. It will take something supernatural to save him.
